Biography

Dr. Carl M. (C.M.) Worthy, Jr. is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee.  He completed undergraduate studies at High Point College and went on to receive a Master of Divinity from Duke University.  While at Duke, Dr. Worthy was a Student Government Intern Minister and Chaplain at Lincoln Hospital.  In 1983, Dr. Worthy received a Docter of Ministry from Drew University.

Dr. Worthy was ordained as a Deacon in 1968 and ordained as an Elder in 1971.  He has spent 35 years pastoring churches in the Charlotte, Greensboro, Lexington and High Point Districts.  Appointments include: Providence, Charlotte (1970-75); Boonville (1975-80); Bessemer, Greensboro (1980-86); Midway, Lexington (1986-90); Reidsville: Woodmont (1990-95); Centenary, Greensboro (1995-98); Jamestown (1998-2005); DS Lexington District (2005-2008); DS High Point District (2008-Present).

Throughout his years of ministry, he has served on various conference boards and agencies including the Board of Ordained Ministry, Committee on Church and Society, Committee on Discipleship and the Quadrennial Budget Planning Committee.  He has also served as a member of the conference's Council on Finance and Administration and was the former chair of the Insurance Committee.

Dr. Worthy and his wife Charlene enjoy traveling in their spare time.  During the past 30 years, their travels have included Israel, Switzerland, Egypt, several Caribbean Islands, Germany and France.
